Monster Island, the Asylum's 2019 mockbuster, was released around the same time as Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The film is about an island with a monstrous creature that lives on it. The island itself acts as a metaphor.


Asylum is an affordable movie that focuses only on a handful of human beings. The film also focuses the attention of a select number of actors in a single location, so all sequences can be shot over lunch. Let's not forget, however, that this is a (posted) film about kaiju, and that is how they work, so maybe The Asylum will do a better job.
